Applications of Thermocouples

Thermocouples have a broad range of uses in diverse industries. Some of the most common uses are found in the food and beverage industry, where it's used in steam kettle temperature control, penetration probes, clean-in-place sensors, hotplate control, oven control, and food chain monitoring. There are different thermocouples for measuring extreme high and low temperatures.

Thermocouples to Measure Low Temperature

Thermocouples can measure temperature as low as -200°C. But, the alloys used in these thermocouples are different. Type K, T, E, and N are used for measuring such low temperatures. The thermocouple alloys are calibrated hence they can be used from a temperature of 0°C and higher, and the same set of alloys can be used till -200°C. Then there are thermocouples for extruders that need high pressure and temperature. These have a unique threader adapter to keep the sensor tip in position under severe pressure conditions. We have J type and K Type thermocouples.

Given the extremely high temperature of the molten metals, Type N and Type K base metal and Type S, R, and B platinum thermocouples are the best options for this kind of condition.
